Dr. Ng Chong is Chief of Information Technology (D1) and Director of the UNU Campus Computing Centre.

As the Chief of IT and Director of the Campus Computing Centre (C3), Dr. Ng Chong leads a team focused on technological transformation and modernization, aimed at improving operational efficiency and fostering innovation to support UNU’s digital evolution. The internship programme he launched at C3 has enabled interns to secure positions in top research programs and companies.

He previously founded the Media and Technology Laboratory at UNU, where he advanced the concept of a global virtual university and developed award-winning educational technologies. He played a key role as Chief Technology Architect for the Wildlife Enforcement Monitoring System initiative, where he designed a secure cloud computing framework for cross-border information sharing, receiving support from the Lusaka Agreement Task Force and several African Member States.

Before joining UNU, he was a lecturer at Florida State University and held various ICT management, senior research, and consulting roles for private and government-funded projects in the US and Latin America.  

Ng has expertise in AI/ML, cloud architecture, security, open-source systems, and large-scale software engineering.  He has written numerous articles and book chapters on topics such as online learning, collaborative computing, and machine learning for cybersecurity. He has also chaired and served on committees at international conferences and helped enhance Microsoft’s security ecosystem by reporting vulnerabilities through threat hunting with the Microsoft Security Response Center. 

He holds a PhD in Engineering from the University of Tokyo and an MS in Computer Science from the University of New Mexico.
