João Martins is a Senior Research Assistant at the United Nations University (UNU-EGOV) since 2017.
He is also a PhD Candidate at the University of Minho and an Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics of the University of Minho.
His main research interests are e-Government, Public Economics, and Political Economy. Regarding e-Government-related topics, his research has mainly focused on institutional and socioeconomic aspects and impacts of digital government and digital transformation of the public sector. Outputs of that research are published in international journals such as the Information Economics and Policy, Government Information Quarterly, and Social Science Computer Review. He has been on the Programme Committee of the ICEGOV, DGO, DTGS, and EGOSE conferences. He has participated in consultancy projects whose beneficiaries are public sector agencies in topics revolving around public sector digital transformation.
João has also done and published research in different areas of Economics, such as Political Economy, Macroeconomics, and Economics Education. He participated in projects funded by the Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos and the European Social Fund regarding term limits, local governments, local finances, voter turnout, and dual training systems.
