Fabian is a research associate with the Ecosystem Vulnerability and Ecosystem Services division. He is particularly interested in the resilient transformation of socio-ecological systems and nature-based solutions for climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction and the achievement of land degradation neutrality.
Fabian has gathered practical experiences at a variety of organizations in the fields of policy, research and international cooperation, including the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the University of Benin, Nigeria, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, the Munich Climate Insurance Initiative, the German Institute of Development and Sustainability and the G20 Global Land Initiative hosted by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. Fabian holds a Bachelor’s degree in Ecosystem Management from the University of Göttingen and was awarded a joint Master’s degree with Distinction in Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security by UNU-EHS and the University of Bonn. He won the DKKV Promotional Award from the German Committee for Disaster Risk Reduction (DKKV e.V.) for his Master’s thesis on forest health and flood risk reduction.
