Mukand Babel is adjunct professor at UNU-FLORES and a full professor at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand, and the Director of the Centre for Water and Climate Adaptation at AIT.
His professional experience in teaching, research, and consultancy spans over 40 years. He conducts research on climate risk and resilience, drought and flood management, hydrologic modeling, IWRM, nature-based solutions, water-energy-food nexus. He was recognized among the top 2% of influential scientists globally as per the annual rankings published by Stanford University in 2023. He is featured among the world’s top 1000 influential climate scientists in the Reuters Hot List in 2021. He appeared in the top 2% list of scientists in the world for research impact based on 2019 achievement in Engineering. He was a recipient of the 2018 International Award by the Japan Society of Hydrology and Water Resources. He has been a Board Member of the Asia Water Council since 2016. He was a Director of the Executive Board of IWRA (2016-2018). With over 300 publications, his current h-index is 44 with 5823 citations (status 13 March 2024). He has carried out several research, capacity building and consulting projects in collaboration with international organizations, private sectors, and governments.
