Dr. Nafissa Insebayeva is a Consultant with Innovation and Education Programme at UNU-IAS.
Dr. Insebayeva received her doctoral degree from the University of Tsukuba (Japan) as a MEXT Scholar. She is an expert specializing in North-South, South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC), with a particular focus on climate justice. Prior to joining UNU-IAS, she was a research associate at the Nippon Foundation Central Asia — Japan Human Resource Development Project (NipCA) and a research fellow at the George Washington University (GW) Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (IERES). Her most recent publications include a book "Modernity, Development and Decolonization of Knowledge in Central Asia" (Palgrave Macmillan).
In her role at UNU-IAS, Dr. Insebayeva will extend her recent research on climate justice, sustainability and international development cooperation. This will include work on advancing the discourse on climate change by examining climate justice practices and narratives in the Global South, and exploring how these approaches can inform and enrich international cooperation efforts.
Through her research and advisory roles at UNU-IAS, Dr. Insebayeva seeks not only to bridge knowledge gaps between the Global North and Global South, but also to inform policymaking, advocating for sustainable development strategies that prioritize equity and inclusivity in addressing climate challenges.
