Haoxuan Yu is a PhD Fellow at the United Nations University International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH). He graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor's degree in Mining & Mineral Engineering from Central South University in China. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Engineering at Monash University and is a visiting PhD scholar at the University of Cambridge, where he focuses on environmental fluid dynamics.
Haoxuan's research interests span a wide range of topics, including pollution control, emissions and climate change, industrial dust, and occupational health. At UNU-IIGH, his work primarily examines how individuals can protect their health and rights in the context of climate change, and how governments can implement policies to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive response.
His engineering background gives him a unique perspective on the environmental and health impacts of industries such as mining and construction, allowing him to draw from both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Furthermore, his expertise in earth sciences enables him to use GIS software to visualize environmental and climate changes in specific regions. This ability to translate complex data into accessible visualizations helps non-experts understand the environmental shifts affecting their communities, empowering them to take proactive steps to safeguard their health.
Through this combination of technical skills and a focus on public health, Haoxuan will bring a well-rounded approach to addressing environmental challenges in both scientific and policy-making contexts.
