Bruce Newbold is Professor of Geography at McMaster University and Director of the School of Geography and Earth Sciences.
He holds a PhD in Geography from McMaster. Trained as a demographer, Dr Newbold’s research interests focus on population issues. One key theme of his work is domestic migration and human capital development in both US and Canadian contexts, for which he has received funding from NSF, SSHRC, and Statistics Canada. Another focus is immigration, including immigrant access to health care, use of health care facilities, reproductive health, disability, the broader determinants of health including housing and employment, and refugee health issues. Dr Newbold is a former Director of the McMaster Institute of Environment and Health, has held visiting professor positions at the University of Glasgow and the University of California San Diego, and worked for several years at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Professor Newbold is the author of over 150 peer-reviewed publications. At UNU-INWEH, he provides input and advice to UNU-INWEH work on water and migration.
