Dr. Caroline King-Okumu is an expert in international policy at the intersection of environmental and social sciences. With over 20 years of experience, she has conducted economic assessments and advocated for investments in land and water management, nature-based solutions, and other climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies.
Dr. King-Okumu has led and managed several complex interagency initiatives at both global and regional levels, including a Global Knowledge Management Initiative for the GEF Land Degradation. At UNU-INWEH, she provides strategic contributions to the focal area of Dryland Ecosystems and the investigation of the value of nature-based solutions for drought resilience.
Dr. King-Okumu holds a D.Phil. in Geography (University of Oxford), a M.Sc, in Environmental Technology (Imperial College London), and another M.Sc. in City Design and Social Science (London School of Economics). In addition to her role at UNU-INWEH, Caroline serves as an Independent Expert to the Intergovernmental Working Group on Droughts under the UNCCD and is a Lead Author for the IPBES Nexus Assessment Financing Chapter.
