Dr. Cheng Xiong specializes in the optimization of water and power systems.
With a focus on hydro-wind-solar-thermal power integration, he has extensive expertise in developing complementary scheduling systems, benchmarking evaluations, and decision-making frameworks. His experience is particularly strong in optimizing scheduling algorithms for cascade hydropower stations. He has led multiple high-impact projects commissioned by the State Grid Corporation of China, contributing to resolving large-scale, complex hydropower scheduling challenges in his home country. As a Visiting Associate Professor at UNU-INWEH, he focuses on flood control dispatch risk analysis and water resource benchmarking evaluations.
Dr. Cheng Xiong received his PhD from Dalian University of Technology, specializing in Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering. He is currently an associate professor at the College of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering of China Three Gorges University in Yichang, Hubei, China.
