Dr. Rendani Mbuvha is an actuary and machine learning expert, specializing in the application of machine learning to improve our understanding of climate-related risks.

At UNU-INWEH, he is developing machine learning applications to better predict extreme climate events like floods, heatwaves, and droughts in order to inform policymaking. Beyond his contributions to UNU-INWEH, Dr. Mbuvha serves as the Google DeepMind Academic Fellow in Machine Learning at Queen Mary University of London and is recognized as a fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK), holding the Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary designation.

Dr. Mbuvha earned his PhD from the University of Johannesburg, concentrating on Shadow Hamiltonian Monte Carlo Methods within Bayesian Neural Networks. His academic journey also includes a Master’s in Machine Learning from the KTH (Royal Institute of Technology) in Sweden. Dr. Mbuvha is the  author of "Hamiltonian Monte Carlo Methods in Machine Learning".
